So...I saw this article float by by LinkedIn page. Did a quick search to determine that it was legit and found the below story on the Washington Post. Give it a read. It's very heartwarming. And, something that reminds us of the good in our country. Something needed during 2020.
tl;dr: From a Haitian slum, Alix Idrache first encountered American Soldiers when they were assisting Haiti after a devastating earthquake when he was a child. He knew then that he would become an American Soldier. And, he did. Recently graduating with honors from West Point. Now he is off to flight school where he will learn to fly Chinook Helicopters.
This is making the rounds on Facebook today. It hit my feed this morning. I've probably watched it 20 times. It makes me laugh so hard.
It just so happens that I am working from home, today. Desmond has a buddy over and they've been playing Xbox. But, I was on a call at about 1:00 and, all of a sudden, two boys appear from downstairs to inform me that they are hungry.
I was reading some of the chatter on this guys Twitter feed. Most people are commenting on how well he handled it. But, a couple are making it sound like he's a big jerk. One even talks about how he "man handled" the older kid and how mad he looks at the "nanny."
Well, first of all, the woman isn't a nanny. According to BBC, it's his wife.
Second, OMG...I totally sympathize with him!!! I have been in meetings in the past, video conferences, where the kid shows up all of a sudden, pissed off because Netflix has stopped working or he can't find a particular lego piece or can he have a popsicle? And, it's totally embarrassing! Because you have to stop talking and shoo your kid. You want your kid to grasp the concept that you are busy and can't help them at the moment. But, to them, the most important thing in the world is that missing lego piece! Desmond is old enough now and has been around for enough of dad's work from home meetings that he knows when to buzz off, now. But that wasn't always the case.
This guy...he's in front of the world, man! He's on TV! I probably would have pee'd my pants!
But, mom's reaction is really my favorite. How she pops in and you can totally see the "HOLY SHIT!" look on her face!! Then, how she tried, unsuccessfully, to remain hidden while closing the door. OMG, this video is so amazing!
There are certain things that I promised I would never say to my kid because I HATED when my parents said them to me. I think I have broken this promise to myself in most circumstances.
What is Monster Squad, you ask? Well, it's a story about a bunch of friends who have to save their town from monsters. Or something. I used to love this movie as a kid. But, I admit...I don't remember a ton about it.
One thing I do remember, however, is that the single greatest line in movie history happens in Monster Squad. Better than, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.". Better than "Life is like a box of chocolates.". And better than "To Infinity and Beyond."
Ladies and gentleman...I give you, the greatest line in movie history:
I don't watch Dancing With the Stars. My folks watch it religiously. Kim watches it occasionally, but she doesn't watch a ton of TV in general. I was more of a So You Think You Can Dance, guy. But, I just can't really commit to any more shows what with my ongoing relationship with The Walking Dead,Game of Thrones and Agents of Shield.
But, when I do see DWTS with Kim or my folks, I am always amazed at the talent of Derek Hough. It's clear to me that he has a ton of talent. I enjoy watching him every time he's on. He makes those lame ass D-list celebrity women look amazing!!!
Anyway, here is a routine my dad sent to me a while back. I still go back and watch it here and there because I so enjoy the way they pull it off. It's not the first time this trick has been done (See Fred Astaire), but it is one of the best. The way they move seamlessly from one wall to another. The way one is on the floor while the other is on the ceiling. It truly well done.
I frequently post things like this on Facebook. Might as well make it a category here.
I am not a fan of Shai LaBouf. I hate when actors take themselves too seriously. Acting is more of a talent than an art, IMHO. I mean, you are taking someone else's material and interpreting it through your actions and voice. You're not the creator. The writer is the creator. You're just bringing a creation to life. Shia LaBouf is a dude who likes to talk smack about a movie like Transformers. A bad movie, maybe. But, regardless...it's the only reason anyone knows his name.
Still, that's all irrelevant. That is really more about why I don't pay money to see Shai LaBouf in movies.
But, I recently came across this little ditty. It's pretty funny. If you're having trouble understanding them, turn on the closed captions.
An example like from the song, "Actual cannibal, Shai LaBouf!"
